The Silent Destruction of Water and Salt
Imagine designing a magnificent multimillion-dollar waterfront mansion right on the shore of the Bosphorus, or a splendid seaside villa along the Black Sea coast. As wonderful as the sea's iodized, humid, and salty air is for the human soul, it is an equally merciless killer of metal and wooden surfaces. In the waterfront mansion restoration projects that land on my desk, the same painful picture appears again and again: rust stains seeping from the lower hems of showy steel doors installed only two years ago at enormous cost, lacquer coats peeled and flaking under the effect of salty wind, and swollen wooden frames. Mounting a standard steel door on a project at sea level is to knowingly abandon that door to death. At Işıldak Çelik Kapı, we completely change the rules in seafront outdoor projects; instead of standard cold-drawn sheet, we integrate the anti-corrosion technologies used by the automotive and shipbuilding industries into the architecture.
The Power of Galvanized Armor and Epoxy Primer
The only way to prevent a steel door from rusting is to cut off the contact between oxygen, moisture, and raw steel at the molecular level. In the frame of the special outdoor doors we produce for waterfront mansions and seaside villas, we use high-grammage hot-dip galvanized sheet. Coated with zinc, this sheet acts almost like a self-sacrificing shield against the destructive corrosive (oxidizing) effect of salt water. On our production line, we never apply paint directly onto this galvanized frame; we spray marine-grade epoxy primers, the same ones applied to ship hulls in the maritime sector. This chemical barrier severs forever any contact between the steel and even the smallest particle of moisture.
A Composite Solution to the Helplessness of Wood on Exterior Surfaces
Using natural wood on the exterior surface of a coastal project—no matter how well kiln-dried or how heavily coated with yacht varnish—will inevitably deform over time under the effect of UV rays and salt. This is where we bring in our marine-grade Composite Panel claddings, which from the outside perfectly replicate the warm and prestigious grain of natural wood, yet contain not a single trace of timber. Whether a southwesterly storm batters the door or the scorching summer sun beats down on its surface, this polymer-based armor will not swell, crack, or fade.
If you are delivering a multimillion-dollar seafront project to your client, you are obliged to present an engineering marvel whose entrance-door lock mechanisms are protected by chrome-nickel (stainless 304 or 316 grade) handles and escutcheons, and whose internal skeleton is shielded to submarine standards. With Işıldak Çelik Kapı, leave the Bosphorus's wearing wind outside the door frame.
