A Mechanism That Slams Five Hundred Times a Day
In a metropolis like Istanbul that never sleeps for twenty-four hours, where circulation and human traffic reach colossal dimensions, the point of an architectural structure that suffers the most is without doubt the building entrance door mechanism. On the apartment or housing-complex projects that land on my desk, the biggest complaint from contractors is always the same: "The door won't close, its motor is broken, the glass is shattered, the lock won't hold." Entrance doors produced from ordinary aluminum profiles or weak glass frames simply cannot physically endure the tremendous shaking and metal fatigue created by opening and closing hundreds of times a day. The vacuum effect created by the wind, the impacts taken during moves, or couriers slamming the door hard will exhaust the lifespan of a standard apartment door within a few months. As Işıldak Çelik Kapı, our approach to building entrances is not to design a showcase, but rather to build a tireless machine that operates at heavy-industry standards.
A Heavyweight Frame That Absorbs the Force of Impact
What determines the quality of an apartment door is not the ornamentation visible from the outside, but the skeletal structure that can dampen the force of wind and impact within itself. In the Building Entrance series we produce, we use special bent steel profiles that wrap around the entire perimeter of the leaf. This enormous weight is hung onto the frame not with standard hinges, but with industrial-type bearing steel hinges. As the door's weight increases, the rate at which it is affected by wind decreases. The hydraulic closing systems (door closers) we place inside the leaf ensure that this heavy mass slows down in the final ten centimeters and settles into the frame silently and with millimetric precision. Amateur problems such as the sound of slamming, the rattling of glass, or the lock bolt wearing down the frame become entirely a thing of the past thanks to this engineering maneuver.
Smart Access Systems and the Integration of Glass with Steel
At building entrances, we cannot compromise on aesthetics either. It is essential for security that the lobby inside receives light and that whoever arrives from outside can be seen. For this reason, we make room for wide glass surfaces in our designs. However, these glasses are not ordinary; they are laminated and tempered special safety glasses that demonstrate incredible resilience (resistance strength) against sledgehammer blows, flexing, and heat. The EPDM gaskets we use when fitting these glasses into the steel frame reduce vibration to zero.
On the technological side of the matter, the era of mechanical keys has long since ended in a city like Istanbul. We integrate card-based access, keypad panels, facial recognition systems, or motorized locks operated directly by a mobile phone's Bluetooth signal into these doors at the manufacturing stage. For contractors, this means that all the malfunction crises that would arise with the building management once they deliver the project are resolved in advance. We integrate our engineering lines into your project so you can leave that unshakable signature that doesn't sag for years, whose locks never fail, and that reflects the prestige of the building onto the street.
