The Aesthetic Massacre of Wrought-Iron Bars
Especially in detached villas, luxury winter-garden entrances, or high-end holding company buildings, architects have a legitimate demand: instead of turning the main entrance of a space into a pitch-dark, sealed steel box, they want to create a glazed design that lets daylight in, feels airy, and establishes a visual connection with the outdoors. Yet conventional steel-door manufacturers know that a glass surface creates an enormous vulnerability when it comes to break-ins. To close that vulnerability, they weld thick, unsightly wrought-iron grilles reminiscent of prison bars behind the glass. Making a space resemble a dungeon from the outside for the sake of natural light is a lack of vision I, as a designer, can never accept. At Işıldak Çelik Kapı, our Luxury Design Series collection throws those iron bars in the trash and brings ballistic-grade glass technologies that withstand sledgehammer blows into play.
Laminated and Tempered Armor That Resists the Sledgehammer
The wide glass surfaces we use in our designs have a completely different genetic makeup from the standard window glass you know. This glass is produced by pressing several thick glass plates together under very high heat and pressure with special polyvinyl butyral (PVB) films between them (Laminated Glass). When a burglar strikes this glass from outside with a heavy sledgehammer or hammer, the glass does not shatter. Just as with armored vehicle windows, it cracks at the point of impact but, thanks to that flexible PVB film inside, it does not fall apart; it preserves its integrity and absolutely does not allow passage through the door. It offers both an aesthetic sense of openness and carries the unyielding resistance of steel onto a transparent surface.
Digital Control of Privacy: PDLC (Smart Glass)
But what about privacy? A glazed door opens the outside to the inside, yet at night you may not want your living room or office to be watched from outside. The classic solution is to hang a curtain on the door's glass, which never harmonizes with modern architecture. This is where we integrate PDLC (Polymer Dispersed Liquid Crystal) Smart Glass systems, the technology of the future, into the steel door. This digital film layer placed inside the glass is, under normal conditions, completely transparent and lets sunlight in.
However, when you press a button on your mobile phone or give the "Privacy Mode" command to the smart home system, the crystals inside the glass instantly change direction and, in about a tenth of a second, turn the glass into a completely opaque, frosted, milky-white wall that cannot be seen through. No one looking from outside can see inside, yet the sense of brightness within is not lost. A transparent showcase by day, an impenetrable and invisible concrete wall by night... With Işıldak technology, designing security and daylight at the same time is exactly this flawless.
